1:52 pm - Okra, please

If anyone has any okra & would like to trade some flower seeds for them (please) let me know so I can send you a list of what I have.

i  just discovered how beautiful the flowers are on it.

or if anyone knows how to exrract the seeds from okra, could I possibly buy one fresh from the farmers market & get the seeds out of it?

I dont do much with veggies, still reading & learning what will grow in my zone until next spring.

1:26 pm - Anyone know what's up with my pepper plants?

They've been the slowest growers in my garden and their leaves are all gnarled and curled. Any ideas? Please help.

11:52 pm - Wanted and available
sandramort I'm going through my plants to figure out what needs to be rehomed, based on germination and so forth. I know I will have several mexican mini gherkin cucumbers available, possibly some red robin tomatoes and maybe basil. I might have other stuff, too. If I get the strawberries in time, I'll have a few extras of those. Not sure what else yet.

I'm also looking for plants. They need to be edible and possible to grow in a container.

I live in NYC (not so far from White Plains!).

12:21 pm - Callaloo Seeds Available

I have an abundance of callaloo seeds from a neighbor. Callaloo is a leafy vegetable, like spinach, used in Jamaican cooking. I grew up eating callaloo and saltfish for breakfast, but, unless we were visiting my grandfolk in JA, it was store bought. Now I am growing my own.

If you are interested, let me know and I can work out a way to send some to you.

Oh, a *handy hint and tip* that I use for growing potatoes.

I never ever ever ever buy seed potatoes. When its a few weeks before planting time, when peeling potatoes, I cut off the potatoes eyes, and a about an inch each way around the eye. If you plant that cut-out, it will grow into a fine healthy potato plant.  I have done this, tried and tested,  for years. :)

Hope its helpful.

3:01 pm - Chard!

Of all things in the greenhouse that are small and less than wildly growing are the Chard plants. I LOVE Chard, the red stalk kind best. It's such a pretty plant, one of my favorite greens & good steamed or raw. I'm out of seed and really prefer to have seed that I've grown or some other organic gardener has. Would anyone out there have any they would trade for lip balm or a bar of soap? :-D

current mood: relaxed

davenkit  I am new to the group, and I really am interested in gardening, especially giant pumpkin gardening! I have a lot to offer the group, if anyone is interested. My biggest so far was 300 pounds, and it was started in a greenhouse in winter to get a head start. In the summer, the greenhouse misting system is used to maintain a thriving growing temperature and perfect humidity.

6:00 pm - Arums, anyone?

I am really into Corpse flowers, if anyone sees any catalogues that atre advertising something from the arum family that puts out a decent florescent, let me know!
I grow my own black calla lilies, and a really weird plant that looks like a cross between a calla and a voodoo lily. I currently have some Typhoniums and Venosum bulbs putting out leaves, one is starting to flower. These plants grow like weeds in california, they are like calla lilies and put out some great stinky flowers. The flies love them, and they tned to have reticulated stems that look like snakeskin and dark red purple fleshy looking flowers. They are super exotic and just make me a happy lady. :D
If anyone is interested in bulbs when the plants have died back, I am looking to trade for other exotic looking plants, or maybe just random stuff you may not want, not too piacky. My Dracunculus Vulgaris (2) both died back recently, so i could probably dig them up and see if there are any baby bulbs to give away, notify me if interested!

9:03 pm - My Veggie seeds.

ok. I just put seeds in my seed starter and did an inventory and like every other year i have A LOT of extra seeds.

As fars as i know everything I grow is heirloom. I harvest seeds for most of the things every year. Anything listed as Harvested is something I have hand harvested seeds from. I give the originating company also if i know it. If it does not say harvested then they are from the original purchased seed packet.

NEW this year!

Others planting this year:

Other sees I have that I am not using, if interested I can send the whole packet:

Any interest? I am taking a trip out of the country for about 10 days. so I will not be able to mail anything until after the 16th of april.

I have an excess of herb seeds I'd like to swap for, well, anything hardy I suppose! I'm really not looking for anything too special, one request though: sunflower seed, I love the autumn colored sunflowers (red/orange).

Heres what I have:
-Garlic Chives (and another chive that I can't remember the name of)
